By Danielle Wirsansky on August 23, 2017

There is no better way to grab the attention of your new residents and make them feel at home than to host a back to school event on your property! If you mostly house students, then appealing to them and helping them to start their year off strong is a great way to get them on the road to renewing their lease with you the following year.

Pool Party

There is no better way to kiss summer goodbye than with an end of summer and back to school pool party! It will not be long before the weather changes and it will get too cool to use the pool, so why not show off one of your property’s nicer amenities to advantage?

Once the school year gets underway, residents will have a lot less time to spend at the pool, so give them a memorable experience that will make them want to celebrate the summer the same way each year by renewing their leases and returning.

Below are some party activity ideas to help you get your pool party underway:

Frozen T-Shirt Contest

Soak several T-shirts in water and then twist and tie them in knots. When sufficiently knotted, stick the wet t-shirts into the freezer until they are frozen solid. It is best to prepare them the day before the party. Once the party begins and you are ready for this contest, bring them out and your residents must compete to unknot the frozen shirts. Whoever gets the shirt unknotted and is able to put it on first, wins the competition!

Underwater Watermelon Relay

Purchase some watermelons and have your residents form teams; the size can be up to you but three is usually a good number. Oil the watermelons with baby oil so that they are slippery to the touch. Have the teams get in the water in a row across the length of the pool and hand the watermelon to the first person in the relay.

On your mark, have the residents dunk the watermelon under the water and then keep it there as they walk the watermelon and pass it to their teammate. If the watermelon surfaces, the team must start over. Whichever team gets their watermelon across the pool first, wins!

Meet ‘N Greet Mixer

When moving to a new community, it can be hard for students to make new friends and make connections to their new neighbors. By hosting a Meet ‘n Greet Mixer in your clubhouse, you can give the residents the opportunity to meet each other and forge new bonds in a low-pressure setting. Help them make your property more than a place to live but a true community that fosters and encourages relationships.

Guess Who

Have your residents break off into groups or clusters and ask each to write their name on an index card, as well as three fun facts about themselves. Have them mix the cards up and read them aloud and see if they can figure out who is who in the group.

I Chose This College Because …

If many of your residents all attend the same local university or college, this is a great game to play. You can have the residents split off into groups or keep everyone involved. Have every student introduce themselves and why they chose that particular college. Every person has to state the name and reasoning of the person before them until the last person in the circle has to state the name and reason why the college was chosen of everyone in the circle. You can also do this again having each student state their college major and why they chose it.
